WILMINGTON, MA - The Bruins snapped a four-game skid on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout of the Florida Panthers, featuring solid goaltending, stronger defense and a touch of their “edge” and physicality that has made them such a tough team to play against in recent years.
It’s not quite near the level they want it to be, but the theme around the locker room seems to be that they’re “heading in the right direction.”
“I don’t know where exactly we did, but we really turned a corner when you start not just focusing on the results but you do focus on the positives and how we were playing and working towards things,” said blueliner Andrew Ference following Sunday’s win at TD Garden.
“And [we] have kind of the bigger picture in mind of what we’re getting ready for and what we’re gearing up for, so it’s going the right direction for sure.”

When Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli acquired Gregory Campbell from the Florida Panthers in the summer of 2010, the words he spoke about the gritty forward’s game could be easily recycled today.
“He’s a very versatile player and if you look closely at his stats other than his goals and assists, he blocks a lot of shots, takes a lot of faceoffs,” said Chiarelli. “He actually locks up some good minutes.”

In this BRUINS :30 clip from Florida, Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand jokingly interrupt Gregory Campbell’s interview during the team’s visit to the Jacobs’ home…
He’s a very versatile player, he can play center, he can play the wing, he’ll block shots, he’ll do whatever it takes, and the more I finally get him in those situations, when you’re asking him to step up, he does a really good job.

Following Marchand’s absence in Saturday night’s third period in Toronto (amidst the already absent Shawn Thornton and Dan Paille), center Gregory Campbell filled in on the wing with Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin, putting up a season-high 14:21 in ice time and lending contributions all over the ice, with two shots, two hits, one of the B’s 22 blocked shots, and going 75-percent on the faceoff dot.
“Yeah, what can you say, Marchy’s a tough guy to replace and I wasn’t trying to replace him. I was just trying to fill a void and help the team win,” said Campbell sitting in his locker room stall at the ACC following the game. “To see Marchy hurt is not something – it’s not a good feeling for our team.”
“We take pride in everybody being able to fill different roles in different spots and help the team win.”

We have been playing together for the last two years, which is a rare thing in hockey. We get along off the ice, which is good because it transfers on the ice. We accept our role and know our role. Sometimes it is not an easy job, but we are willing to help the team. It’s a role we take pride in.
The B’s famed “Merlot Line” looks to find its 2011 Cup-run form by keeping it simple and continuing their high-energy, hard-hat style of play that often sets the tone for the Black & Gold. Read the full feature here.
